California State University-Stanislaus, University Student Union Expansion
Turlock, CA
Completion Date: 2009
Size: 76,000 gsf
Pfeiffer Partners is developing a preliminary program, conceptual design, project scope and project budget for an expansion of CSU-Stanislaus\' University Student Union building. At approximately 40,000 gsf, the University Student Union, built in 1971, includes an addition from 1991, and sits on the main quad of campus, opposite the library. The project goal is to create a design that combines existing and new functions together into a new campus living room. All of the major functions of the existing building have separate exterior entries, with no lobby or connection between them. The building additions will tie functions together with a new central circulation spine and active lounge space that connects all the programmatic elements. The design of the new lobby space will also create an actual front door to the building. The east addition also allows for a new conference center with a separate entry and drop-off, which will be used for student and community events alike. Additional elements of the expansion include a ballroom for 900 with kitchen and green room, five new conference rooms with capacities ranging from 8 to 50, a game room, the Warrior Grill, student club and organization space, office space, and most importantly, expanded quiet and active lounge spaces and a computer lounge.
