Disney Hyperion Theater
Anaheim, CA

Completion Date: 2001
Size: 58,000 s.f.

Pfeiffer Partners designed a new high technology 2,000-seat live-show theater, as part of the new Disney California Adventure entertainment park. It was planned to accommodate large Broadway-style productions and frequent show change-overs, as well as occasional special event awards shows and film presentations. The theater was designed in the "vocabulary" of a sound stage to give the theater audience a sense of being on a live set and to feel part of the production. It is technologically and acoustically equipped to support not only theatrical productions, but also live television broadcast events, incorporating AV and television cable flexibility throughout the building. Audio and video projection and lighting control rooms are provided at the rear of the space and double as television control booths and executive viewing areas. The theater accommodates special effects systems, such as hydraulic power and the use of LN2 gas. The design also allows for the future installation of a laser system. All support spaces, including technical rooms, dressing rooms, costume workrooms, scenery shops, storage and work space, are housed within the building's footprint.
