University of California, Santa Barbara, Humanities, Social Sciences & Sciences Renovations Study
Santa Barbara, CA
Completion Date: 2005
Size: 162,000 s.f.
Pfeiffer Partners prepared a detailed project program for The College of Arts and Letters at UC Santa Barbara to renovate four buildings to house humanities, science and social science programs. The programming effort involved 18 of the 58 departments within the college and creates a relocation plan as part of the Universitys long-range strategy to consolidate these academic units as outlined in the campus master plan. The catalyst for the renovations is the future construction of a new Education and Social Sciences Building to be completed in summer 2007. The current strategy is to locate the campus science and scientific academic units east of the campus north/south circulation axis and the humanities and cultural academic units north of the east/west axis, providing for more efficient campus circulation and research sharing opportunities. The renovations involve 162,300 gsf in Phelps Hall, Ellison Hall, South Hall, and HSSB, and involve new administrative offices, computer labs, classrooms, research labs, and academic offices, as well as renovation and relocation of conference and seminar rooms. |
