Seattle University, Lemieux Library & McGoldrick Learning Commons Renovation and Expansion
Seattle, WA
Completion Date: 2010
Size: 120,000 sf
Pfeiffer Partners has programmed and designed the renovation and expansion of the A.A. Lemieux Library at Seattle University, originally constructed in 1966. The project expands the library by 40,000 sf to better serve its 6,000 students, 480 faculty, and the surrounding community, incorporating new media development functions, academic support space for teaching and learning, new technology-rich spaces, a distance learning environment, and improved library instruction spaces. The expanded library accommodates more than 1,000 seats and 380,000 volumes to support the 15-year acquisition growth rate of the library. It features centers for media, instructional design/multimedia development, student success and technology training, a 24/7 study area, information commons, group study spaces, and a popular/new books area. The addition provides new opportunities to link the library with the adjacent student union and campus green, connecting with the academic center of the campus.
