WILLIAM MURRAY, AIA

A leading voice in the world of architecture for the performing arts for over a decade, Bill Murray has established a national reputation for planning and designing theaters and performances spaces for both professional and academic uses. Building on his personal passion for the theater and the fine arts, his expertise includes balancing both the technical issues of state-of-the-art practice, rehearsal, teaching and performance spaces, with the design challenges of creating intimate spaces. His experience includes feasibility studies, new construction, and renovation of cultural centers, in addition to a range of other visual arts, educational, commercial, and civic projects. Since joining the firm in 1991, Bill's projects, both for HHPA and Pfeiffer Partners, include The Colburn School of Performing Arts in Los Angeles, The Vilar Center for the Arts in Beaver Creek, CO, the San Diego Civic Theatre renovation and expansion in San Diego, CA, The RiverCenter for the Performing Arts in Columbus, GA; the DeBartolo Performing Arts Center at the University of Notre Dame; the Joseph A.W. Clayes III Performing Arts Center at California State University, Fullerton; and the Evo A. Deconcini U.S. Courthouse in Tucson, AZ. His current work includes the new Performing Arts Center Eastside (PACE) in Bellevue, WA, the renovation and expansion of the A.A. Lemieux Library at Seattle University, Seattle, WA, the renovation and expansion of the McCallum Theatre in Palm Desert, CA, and the new Performing Arts Center for Chapman University in Orange, CA. Bill is a member of the International Association of Assembly Managers (IAAM), The National Association of Schools of Music (NASM), and a Vice Chair of the United States Institute of Theater Technology (USITT). He is also an active board member for the NATEAC. A featured speaker and panelist at the USITT annual convention on an ongoing basis, Bill continues to chair the design awards program annually, as well being as a featured speaker at the IAAM. In 1986, he was named a National AIA Scholar and, in 1987, received his Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Oregon.
